Big Data

Big data is changing the recruiting world and altering the way that people interact with online job boards. Before we go any further, we should probably define big data. It is not an easy task to define big data, but Forbes Magazine tells us that big data is information collected to help derive a more detailed profile of a business target. In this case, the business target is corporate job recruits, and big data is helping more and more recruiters zero in on the precise candidates they are looking for.

As Big Data moves deeper and deeper into the business world, recruiters are using to deliver the best qualified talent to companies.

Hitting Better Targets

According to TheUndercoverRecruiter.com, companies are using big data to determine such details as the working of job ads, and the best days of the week to release job ads to get the best targets. Information collected from a variety of sources can tell recruiters when certain types of candidates are online, and when the most applications are received. The recruiters then use this data to create a comprehensive profile of their target audience of recruits, and then sets up ads that are going to be more successful.

Reaching Out Across The Web

Big data can come from anywhere, and that includes message boards and social media. Many recruiters are gathering big data from social media sites to see if candidates would fit their company’s social culture or not. It sounds like hocus pocus, but it is really just a comprehensive use of all of the data available on a candidate. Companies have been using social media sites for years to determine a candidate’s attitude, and big data just takes that a step further.

In some fields, such as computer programming and computer support, many candidates leave big footprints on message boards where they will give advice and post public pieces of information that show off their expertise. This information is now being grabbed by big data collectors and being used by recruiters to find the very best candidates.

Job Boards Are Key Sources

According to RingLead.com, job boards are becoming sources of updated information for recruiters who use big data. The premise is that candidates can change email addresses or cell phone numbers, and this data change throws off the attempts to track a candidate’s activity. But many candidates take the trouble to keep their job board profiles updated, and that is where big data users get a lot of their updated information.

Job boards and recruiters are collecting more and more data to give employers the information they need to find the right candidates. The reach of big data is significant, and the data that can be gathered on candidates is much more comprehensive than it ever used to be. Recruiters are using that comprehensive information to improve their results when looking for candidates, and job boards are using big data to help employers find the kind of candidates they need to fill their open positions.

2 Thoughts on “Why Big Data is a Recruiter’s New Best Friend

  1. Using social media to depict one’s personality could help a recruiter in a way how he/she would handle highs and lows of his/her life. Let’s face it, most of time, we only post something if we’re sad or happy. It’s that point where we remember to share it to the world because we either want someone to console or see how happy we are. This is a great tool to collaborate with the facts that we could get through actually talking to the candidate.

Great point – I think it also allows a recruiter to seem less robotic – and also it really allows for more conversation, not just posting something every time you are pitching or filling a position. Definitely a good opportunity to do a little thought leadership…
